As a single mum of three who has never been in employment, Sherree Burrows, 31, lacked confidence, work experience and was unsure how to enter employment when she first approached the Remploy team in Lanarkshire.

One of Sherree’s main barriers to employment was her literacy and IT skills. To help support her strengthen these skills, she was referred to Lead Scotland, a member of our Community Partnership Network (CPN), that work with adults in the local area to learn and develop their literacy and digital skills.

Sherree met with her Key Worker, Hollie Ledingham, on a weekly basis. Being supported by the Remploy team to develop and move closer to employment, Sherree was able to build up her confidence and skills in one-to-one sessions.

Thanks to Remploy, Sherree now feels ready to start looking for the right role and will receive more support to gain employment.

She said: “Fair Start has allowed me to come out of my shell and feel more confident. The positive feedback and skills building workshops have been really helpful. With continued help from the Remploy team, I hope that I can find a job that is right for me.”
