Manufacturing jobs help to create many of the things we use every day, like clothing, electronics, medicine and more. Here’s a look at the most common roles and how to get started.
What kind of manufacturing roles are there?
The manufacturing sector is very big, so there are many different manufacturing jobs you might work in:
Production operative
As a production operative, you will help to assemble goods on a production line. You may also work with equipment like factory conveyor lines.
This is a role where attention to detail is important, as the products you are assembling will need to be right the first time.
Packing operative
Packing operatives must work quickly to receive and pack containers, boxes and parcels. You might do this manually or, in larger factories or warehouses, operate packing machinery.
As a packing operative, you will work to tight deadlines, so speed and accuracy is essential.
Assembler
As an assembler, you will make sure that parts are fitted together correctly, following blueprints and diagrams as a guide. You might use machinery, hand tools or automated equipment to fit different parts together.
Assemblers also need good hand-eye coordination and the ability to follow instructions closely.
