Following six months of unemployment, Naomi Meechan, 26, joined the Fair Start Scotland service in January 2022.

Naomi, from Airdrie, had work experience in a variety of sectors, but needed help from Remploy to find a full-time position that would allow her to develop and progress.

Meeting with her Key Worker, Angelique Cleland, on a weekly basis, Naomi was supported to look for local job opportunities and explore her career goals. During this time, she also received help to update her CV and complete job applications.

When a position became available in the Airdrie branch, Naomi’s Key Worker identified that she would make a good fit for this position. Together, they discussed how Naomi’s skills and experience would be a great addition to the Remploy team and explored the opportunities available for progression.

After a successful interview, Naomi began working as a Key Worker in March 2022.

She said: “Remploy saw my true potential at a time when I was struggling to see this myself. My new role has allowed me to have more responsibilities and a clear line of progression – since starting, I have completed college courses and additional learning to develop further.

“I feel fortunate enough to be able to help and support people to overcome their barriers to employment.”

Naomi continues to be supported by her In-Work Support Advisor, is taking part in a mentorship programme and looking forward to developing in her new role.
