Kerry rebuilds her confidence to find a fulfilling new role

Kerry* from Dundee joined the Fair Start Scotland service in March 2023. After leaving school at 16, she had been unemployed for six months.

The team initially supported Kerry into a Trainee Painter role, however after difficulties with her manager, she decided to leave this position. This negatively impacted Kerry’s confidence, and as a result, she struggled to re-engage with the service and stopped attending appointments.

Kerry’s dedicated Key Worker, Daniel Abernethy, worked hard to keep in contact with her and build her confidence back up through their telephone communications to encourage her to return to the office.

When Kerry felt ready to try again, she was connected with Scott, our Development Officer, who held sessions with her that focused on rebuilding her confidence and preparing her to return to work.

Kerry was encouraged to think about her career aspirations, and soon identified childcare as a sector she was interested in. Daniel sourced a Trainee Nursery Nurse position that aligned with Kerry’s goals and worked with her alongside Scott to prepare for interview.

She attended mock interviews and further sessions to enhance her confidence and was also provided with interview clothes.

After a successful interview, Kerry was offered the job on the spot and began her role in September 2023.

Reflecting on the experience, Kerry said: “I want to thank Remploy and the team for the effort that was put in and for helping me gain my confidence back.”
