Four disabled people received awards at the This is Remploy Edinburgh event in recognition of their determination to overcome significant barriers and secure life-changing employment.
Four disabled people received awards at the This is Remploy Edinburgh event today in recognition of their determination to overcome significant barriers and secure life-changing employment.
The four; Agnes Main, Eric Larkin, Fiona Riaro and Steven Bell all from Edinburgh received their awards from MSP Kenny MacAskill.
Fiona Riaro who gained a job in hospitality through Remploy said: “I have found a family in Remploy and Remploy has helped me to boost my confidence. They follow you throughout your journey and they keep in contact with you.”
Bank of New York Mellon also received the Remploy award for their commitment to being an examplar employer of disabled people. Susanne Bathgate of BNY Mellon said: “The relationship with Remploy has been so successful and we are very proud that.”
The event at the Remploy branch in Earl Grey Street was a celebration of Remploy’s work in the city supporting people with disabilities and health conditions.
In the last year Remploy, Britain’s leading provider of specialist employment services for people with disabilities and health conditions, supported 223 people with a health condition or disability into work in Edinburgh.
Outlining exciting plans for Remploy in Scotland. Beth Carruthers, Remploy chief executive, said: “This is a really exciting time in Remploy and Scotland’s history. Creating a fairer, healthier, wealthier Scotland has to include removing employment inequalities for disabled people and that is what this event was about.”
During the day there were speeches from guest speakers including Mr MacAskill MSP for Edinburgh Eastern, and Commonwealth judo gold medallist Kimberley Renicks highlighting the work that Remploy does
Mr MacAskill said: “Today was a very inspiriational day based on and built on testimonies from individuals who have overcome adversity and are achieving great things. I have found today inspiring and it has been a privilege to be here.”
