Remploy are one of six successful bidders to be awarded a two year contract delivering the new Specialist Employability Support (SES) programme.
Remploy has been awarded a government contract to support more disabled people into training and employment.
The two-year national contract to deliver part of the new Specialist Employability Support (SES) programme will start in September 2015.
Remploy is one of six successful bidders for SES contracts which will ensure 1,700 disabled people across England, Scotland and Wales receive work-related support. About 1,250 disabled people are expected to move into work over the course of the contract.
SES builds on the foundations of the Residential Training College (RTC) model, which provides mainly on-site courses for 800 students. The new programme will more than double the number of disabled people helped and offer more choice and more convenient support.
The contract award comes ahead of Remploy’s 70th anniversary on 7 April and shortly after it was announced that the organisation would leave government ownership with the creation of a new joint venture between Remploy employees and MAXIMUS.
Beth Carruthers, Remploy’s chief executive welcomed the news of the contract win.
“The timing could hardly be better, coming as it does on the eve of an exciting new era for Remploy,” she said.
“It recognises our expertise in providing employment support for people with complex barriers to work.”
Recent statistics revealed the number of disabled people in employment is now more than 3.1 million, a year-on-year increase of 141,000.
Minister for Disabled People, Mark Harper said: “While the improvement in the disability employment rate is fantastic news, there is of course more we need to do to support disabled people into work. That is why we are bringing in this new programme.
“SES will target those people who need the most support to enter work or undertake work-related courses and activities. It will offer specialist support to people with disabilities across the UK, using outreach and partnership working to ensure that coverage is nationwide.”
Remploy will work with a national network of specialist partners, each offering support to vulnerable adults who want to get their lives back on track.
