Remploy is encouraging people with a disability or health condition to make their voice heard as part of the United Nation’s ‘International Day of Persons with Disabilities’.
Remploy, the UK’s leading specialist in disability employment, is encouraging people with a disability or health condition to make their voice heard as part of the United Nation’s ‘International Day of Persons with Disabilities’ (IDPD).
IDPD takes place annually on 3rd December and Remploy’s theme this year is ‘The Disabled Voice’. They will be holding sessions at branches across the UK on Friday 2nd and Monday 5th December to provide the opportunity for disabled people to air their views on employment and the support Remploy provides.
They will also be inviting local stakeholders, employers and community organisations to engage and share their thoughts on how to make services better for disabled people.
IDPD will mark the launch of Remploy’s Purple Platform, ensuring the voice of disabled people is heard in the design and delivery of the services they deliver. Also central to the Purple Platform is Remploy’s Ambassador Network, which is a team of Remploy employees with life experience of disability, who will work with employers and partners to help them become more disability confident.
Gareth Parry, Remploy’s Chief Executive, said: “We want people with disabilities to help shape the support they receive from us which will enable us to better tailor our services to them. Remploy works with, and for disabled people, so it is important that they tell us what they need and how we can support them - they play a pivotal role in providing us with feedback to improve our services.”
On Friday at 11.30am, four of Remploy’s ambassadors will be holding a live Twitter Q and A session, to answer any questions people may have about disability and how to become a disability confident employer.
Gareth added: “Our ambassadors bring first-hand experience of living with a disability to their role and will be going around the country talking to employers, local authorities, and commissioning bodies. It’s important to showcase the talents of disabled people and champion their employment as great business sense. Our aim is to have ambassadors in every region of the UK, so they can help to shape the services we offer and collect feedback from other disabled people.
“Disability employment is integral to our work,” said Gareth, “28 per cent of all Remploy colleagues, including at board level, are disabled, so we really do live our values.”
