Mike coached to job success by Remploy
12th February 2008
Mike EvansMike, 40, has achondroplasia, one of the most common forms of short limb dwarfism. His biggest worry wasn’t finding a suitable job, it was making sure that he had the right skills to get it, so he contacted Remploy - the UK’s leading provider of employment services for people with disabilities and health conditions.
When Mike heard about a role at Jobcentre Plus in Swansea, he knew that Remploy would be able to coach him in the key employability skills he would need. He attended a Job Action Group in Fforestfach to get help with writing his CV and, most importantly, his interview techniques. After a mock interview and some extra coaching, Mike attended a formal interview and was delighted when he was offered the job as an administration officer.
Mike said: “It’s great to be doing something constructive with my time. I really enjoy my role, the Jobcentre is a great place to work and it is lovely to have the chance to meet new people.”
Jobcentre Plus is Remploy’s main referral partner across the UK.
Later this year Remploy will be opening its second recruitment branch in Wales, in the centre of Swansea. It will provide specialist recruitment and development services to job seekers who have a health issue or disability, but are keen to return to work or enter the job market for the first time.
