From Remploy candidate to branch co-ordinator
12th October 2007
Ian Cane Remploy Plymouth's new branch co-ordinatorOriginally attending the Plymouth branch on Armada Way as a jobseeker, Ian was so impressed with the friendly atmosphere and great team that he applied for a job vacancy at the branch and was thrilled to be successful in gaining employment.
In his new role Ian is responsible for greeting disabled candidates looking for work and assessing their eligibility for the various Remploy vocational development programmes offered at branch. These allow candidates to develop a broad skill base and include interview techniques, CV workshops, job searching support and confidence building.
Ian, who has hearing loss, tinnitus and repetitive strain injury in his wrists understands the barriers people with health conditions can encounter. He explains: “I used to do physical work but my health conditions made this increasingly difficult. I was out of work for two years before retraining with Remploy and now I am really confident using the skills I learnt here as a candidate to help others find work in the local community.”
Branch manager Barbara Field says: “Ian is a real star. He understands the candidates and fits into the team really well. It’s been brilliant see Ian using his skills to inspire jobseekers to achieve their full potential.”
Jobseekers interested in finding out more about improving their employment prospects and meeting the friendly team are encouraged to visit the branch at Mayflower House on Armada Way.
