After being out of work for 20 years and experiencing serious illness, Norma Miles has taken control of the wheel and gained a job in the motor industry.

Originally a telephonist in a local hospital in Cardiff, Norma, 57, gave up full time work when her second child was born to concentrate on the job of being a wife and mother.

She was later unable to return to work when her husband experienced long term sickness and needed her care, and then she contracted cancer herself.

After receiving the 'all clear' a year ago Norma started an IT training course. It was there she heard about Remploy.

Norma explains: "I was very shy and found it hard to push myself forward. Remploy helped me to work on my confidence skills by involving me in group tasks with other jobseekers and they also arranged a mock interview so I could get some practice."

While visiting her local Jobcentre Plus Norma saw a position advertised that interested her, so she took the details to Remploy where they helped her to apply for the job.

Following a successful interview Norma was offered the job as a receptionist with Lexus Cardiff.

She said: "This job isn't just about money to me. I am delighted to be back in work and feel I have found the confidence to take charge of my life. This is my time!"
