Neaterpal scores the century.

Neaterpal Dhaliwal is loving life again after landing a job with Coventry City Council - and becoming a Remploy "centurion".

The 37-year-old, who works as an administration assistant in the council's wages department in Broadgate House in the city, is the 100th person to have found and been supported into work through Remploy's Coventry branch.

The married father-of-three had previously been working in a call centre when he had an angina attack. He then spent four years without a job until Jobcentre Plus in Cofa Court, Coventry, referred him to Remploy for specialist help.

He completed a two-week key skills course, underwent sessions aimed at rebuilding his self-confidence and employment advisor Anita Brennan helped him find suitable job vacancies and prepare for interviews.

Neaterpal said: "Remploy really helped me find jobs I was interested in. I wanted clerical work and then the vacancy came up with the council and I got it."

"I absolutely love the job and really feel part of the team. My manager was really helpful, offering me a great deal of flexibility, and although it was tiring getting back into the swing of things after so long out I soon settled in and am now really happy."

Councillor Heather Johnson, cabinet member for customer, workforce and legal services at Coventry City Council, said: "As the largest employer in the city, one of our key priorities is to create job opportunities for disabled people and our partnership with Remploy is just one way we are doing this. I'm delighted that Neaterpal has chosen to work for us and he is already proving himself to be a real asset to the team."
