College training pays off as Liam gets not just one job, but two.

Liam Trimby, 19 and from Melksham, has ensured that the skills he learnt at Wiltshire College in Trowbridge are being put to good use - with a little help from Remploy.

After completing a food hygiene certificate and vocational preparation course, Liam was referred to Remploy by disability employment advisor, Jane Clark, at Trowbridge Jobcentre Plus.

Remploy soon identified a vacancy and accompanied Liam to an interview for a temporary Christmas worker in a local supermarket. Liam's learning disability means that mastering new routines are challenging for him, but with Remploy providing initial job coaching, he was soon helping out with the busy Christmas rush.

Two months in this role gave Liam the confidence he needed to apply for a permanent job, and with Remploy's continued encouragement he applied for and successfully landed a lobby crew position at restaurant chain, McDonalds in Melksham.

Job coaching provided in the first week helped Liam develop an efficient routine, and demonstrate an understanding of health and safety and company procedures. He was thereby able to transfer the skills from his college course and supermarket role to keeping the lobby and restaurant clean for the hungry McDonalds diners.

He is now working independently and has settled in very well according to restaurant manager Katie May:

"Liam always works to the best of his ability and is a very reliable member of the team, she said. "He willingly does any tasks asked of him and can do his routine jobs with little supervision."
