Brian
"I've just been made a permanent member of staff!" says Brian.
Skelton man Brian Watson wondered which of his skills could possibly interest a local manufacturer of electronic assemblies. His last job was in the food industry from which, five years ago, he reluctantly resigned when his anxiety and panic attacks worsened. Though keen to work again, he remained unemployed and claiming benefits.
Brian had spent the intervening time building intricate models of cars and buses. His hand coordination was excellent - and that's exactly what Cleveland Circuits was looking for when they interviewed him! The company produces complex printed circuit boards and relies on the attention to detail of its staff in the manufacturing process - and Brian fitted the bill.
Remploy played its part in ensuring Brian was job ready prior to his interview. His employment advisor assisted him with developing a number of key skills for employment, including confidence building, interview techniques, communications skills and completing job application forms effectively - and then introduced him to Cleveland Circuits.
Brian now operates a wave soldering machine and is part of the assembly team for a number of Cleveland Circuits' product lines, including electronic PCB boards that are used to control smoke alarms and fire detectors.
"The job is perfect for me," said Brian. "Although I've been here for more than six months on several short term contracts, I've just heard today I've been made a permanent member of staff - so that's a 31 year contract now!"
