Alex makes an impact.

Alex Campbell, aged 59, was forced to leave his warehouse job after an accident left him with a smashed hip and nerve damage to his foot. "I was stuck in one room at home for the first six months after the operation, and it took two years for me to recover enough to work, which was really frustrating," he said.

Although Alex was keen to work, the eight-month job search that followed made him suspect that employers had written him off due to his age and disability. A visit to Remploy's Leicester branch soon changed his fortunes.

"I found Remploy organised and helpful, and I attended job action groups at the branch, which gave me advice on all areas of applying for jobs, from letter writing to interview techniques and computer access," he said.

Shortly afterwards, Alex successfully applied for his current role as a storeman at Impact Ducting in Leicester, where he is responsible for a range of duties including deliveries and forklift driving.

"It's such a relief to be working again," said Alex. "I was getting to the stage where I had to find work because of financial concerns. The job keeps me active and also gets me out and about, which is great, as being unemployed was starting to lead to apathy and depression.

"My manager, Ian Middleton, was prepared to take a chance on me, and I feel that it is working out well for both of us."
