SSU is funded through the European Social Fund and the Skills Funding Agency. The aim of this provision is to help unemployed and economically inactive people (non-Work Choice customers) living in the Black Country enter, progress and sustain employment, education or apprenticeships through flexible and personalised packages of support. The provision enhances engagement and work readiness activity, as well as ensures sustained job outcomes for disadvantaged people who face multiple barriers to work.

Delivered across all areas of the Black Country to provide an end to end service to disabled people or those with a health condition (18+) including:

  • Attachment of a Trainer / Advisor
  • Initial assessment and in-depth profile
  • Tailored action plan to address specific barriers and skills development requirements; bespoke to the individual
  • Non-accredited (16 session) personal, social, wellbeing and employability development activities ‘About Me’
  • Brokerage to specialist support
  • City and Guilds Employability Skills entry 3 to Level 2 wrapped around a LEP priority sector / employer-focused sector route-way
  • Digital literacy programmes
  • Functional skills: maths and English signposting
  • Self-employment advice and training
  • Work-experience / tasters
  • Progression to FE / an Apprenticeship / Employment / Self-employment (sustained for 3 months)
  • In-work training and development planning and in-work / training support.
