Remploy and Mencap call for Supported Internships to be given a higher profile.

In March 2016,  we produced a joint report with Mencap titled ‘Raising Aspiration: widening participation in supported internships’. Together we argue that Supported Internships need equal status to Apprenticeships because they are proven to be a successful model for people with learning disabilities but are not widely recognised.

Employers have rarely heard of the model and are wary of participating. This makes it hard to scale up the model. The point that the qualification is very challenging is slightly open to challenge - there are people with learning disabilities who have managed to pass the qualification with a lot of support.
