"...she had the qualities that employers are looking for"
Lynn Patterson was low on confidence when she was first referred to Remploy’s Glasgow branch. She feared that her dyslexia and other health issues would stop her from ever finding another job.
But the specialist support she received from Remploy put her back on track and she is now working as a part-time customer service assistant at B&Q’s store in Darnley, following a successful four-week work placement.
“Remploy helped re-build my confidence and self-belief,” said Lynn. “My employment advisor arranged for me to attend some courses and helped me build a standout CV.”
Ann Lauder, HR manager at B&Q’s Darnley store said: “Soon after Lynn started her work placement it became clear that she had the skills and personality that B&Q looks for in its employees. Since then, she has become part of the team and is a real asset to our business.”
Magdalena Guzy, an employment advisor at Remploy’s Glasgow branch added: “Although Lynn is well-qualified, she had never been able to find a suitable job that matched her skills and this made her frustrated and unhappy.
“However, we were able to show her that she had the qualities that employers are looking for and from then on she started to feel more confident about her job prospects. The work placement at B&Q was the perfect way for Lynn to demonstrate her ability.”
Remploy also helped Lynn buy clothes for her interview and paid for her travel to and from work during her work placement.
Added Lynn: “Remploy helped me to find an employer who understands my disability and enables me to use my skills and qualifications in a positive way. My confidence is soaring and I am so happy to be working at B&Q.”
