What is the Experts by Experience programme?
The Experts by Experience programme is where individuals, who have first-hand experience as service users, accompany the Care Quality Commission Inspectors to help compile reports on the standard of care provision, by speaking directly to users of the service and giving users’ opinions a voice.
Every Expert will, in the last five years, have either used a similar service themselves, or cared for a family member who has - so they know better than anyone what to look for and what questions to ask to understand how it feels to be a user of that service.
The work the Experts undertake is really important in giving a voice for the users of the services, and helping to shape the services to provide better care for the future.
We are tremendously proud of the work our Experts do. In the first nine months of this year alone, our Experts have undertaken over 3,500 inspection events! The reports they have contributed to have resulted in the ratings of thousands of health and social care settings, ensuring that people can make an informed choice when choosing care, and driving up standards in settings where poorer quality of care is being delivered.
