Special Educational Needs Initiative

Helping young people with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) move into employment

As part of the Special Educational Needs Transition to Employment Initiative, Remploy and The National Autistic Society Cymru have been selected to provide training and employment opportunities to young people with an ASD, in the transition to adulthood.

Our support

We understand that everyone’s needs are different, so our support is tailored to each individual.

The kinds of activities’ individuals can expect to take part in include:

  • Support to gain vocational qualifications
  • Work preparation
  • Help to write a CV and apply for jobs
  • Supported work placements
  • Help to know what to expect at interviews
  • Ongoing support once in work to make sure that everything goes well.

Our aim is to empower each individual that we work with, increasing their confidence and self-belief, to enable them to thrive in a working environment.

Many people with an ASD are highly skilled, qualified and extremely employable. We work with employers, helping them to recognise the benefits, and understand the practicalities, of employing someone with an ASD. In turn, this allows them to demonstrate their commitment to equality and diversity and take a positive attitude to the employment of disabled people.

Who we can help

To receive our support, the individual must be between 14 and 19 years old, have an ASD and live or go to school or college in:

  • Caerphilly
  • Torfaen
  • Merthyr Tydfil
  • Bridgend
  • Pembrokeshire
  • Carmarthenshire
  • Rhondda Cynon Taff
  • Swansea
  • Neath Port Talbot.
