Application form tips
Application forms help employers to compare candidates easily and ask for information that may not be on your CV, including equal opportunity questions. It is also your opportunity to show how you fit the job description.

Follow the instructions on how to complete the form

Draft your answers on a spare piece of paper first, in case you make a mistake

If you are handwriting the form, make sure your writing is neat

Check your spelling and grammar are correct

Make a photocopy to remember what answers you gave

Answer every question

Use black ink – so the employer can photocopy it easily

Send your application with a word processed covering letter and thank the employer for taking the time to read your application

Only attach a copy of your CV if the employer has asked you to. If you are asked to include a CV make sure that it is relevant to the job you are applying for

Don’t be afraid to ask for the form in a different format if you need it, such as in large print

Remember - be honest as you could get caught out if you’re not

Allow time for your application to arrive before the closing date, ensure it is addressed to the right person and has the correct postage on.
