Description of Services Abacus is a charity that offers an accessible counselling service supporting individuals within a multicultural local community, located in the city centre in Coventry. It's provision covers one of the poorest, most densely populated areas in the city and offers help to individuals and families living in difficult circumstance. Within its counselling remit, Abacus counsellors use an integrative approach in intervention, using person centred and cognitive methods with clients. All counsellors working with Abacus are all professionally qualified in Counselling training and are registered with the British Association for Counselling and psychotherapy (BACP) and Abacus also has organisational registration. Abacus offers a range of services to individuals and community groups. It continues its support to the unemployed to work with individual personal skills to identify and resolve barriers to employment and training through its organisational process, Abacus maintains regular consultations with its network organisations and service users. As a member of Voluntary Action Coventry, Abacus attends the Health & Social Care Forum which gives voluntary and community groups the opportunity to meet and engage with Coventry Council, PCT and NHS decision-makers as well as providing briefings and discussion opportunities. This Partnering has consolidated the development with other groups of the opportunity to seek and support counselling and mediation services to aid personnel struggling with stress, reducing the amount of time lost to sick days.
