Learning Partnerships is a Leeds based charity with nearly 25 years of experience of working in the inner city to provide opportunities and support for children, young people and adults to access education, employment, training and volunteering. The areas of Leeds in which we work fall within the lowest 20% of the most deprived areas nationally on the index of multiple deprivation. 5 of these inner-city areas fall within the lowest 10% nationally. These significant levels of deprivation are apparent in educational attainment, living environment, income and health. Our projects are needs driven and we have a track record of delivering highly successful programmes which support personal development, the journey to employment and community integration and regeneration. Over the last 5 years we have become one of the leading third sector organisations delivering employability training in Leeds, many of the learners we work with have multiple barriers to learning and work including mental health problems. Our overall aim is to help Learners to develop a 'can do' attitude enabling them to become independent and confident of taking ownership of their learning and/or employment. We are currently working on a programme funded through Big Lottery called Talent Match. This programme is aimed at 18-24 year olds who are long term unemployed with multiple barriers. From our assessments we have identified that over 80% of the young people involved have suffered or are suffering from mental health problems. The programme offers intensive 1:1 support through a key worker approach that helps the learner overcome their barriers through a process of interventions. These interventions include numerous activities e.g. counselling, FE and work based learning courses, volunteering and work experience. Our own Inspire and Achieve course has been utilised successfully for a number of Talent Match learners. This work has helped us to build on and develop new partnerships with deliverers of therapeutic services and short courses specifically aimed at people with mental health problems. We already hold a large contract with LCC to deliver ACL and therefore fully understand the requirements of SFA/ESF funding. Many of the learners participating on our programmes suffer from mild to moderate mental health problems; this is particularly evident on our Inspire & Achieve programme which targets adults who are long term unemployed, many of which are work programme completer's.Our Vision: A society where individuals are engaged, inspired and empowered to achieve their full potential
