City's councillor launches Remploy's latest branch

Hull City council leader Carl Minns has formally opened Remploy's latest city centre recruitment branch on Albion Street, which provides specialist employment services to people who experience complex barriers to work.

The branch will play a key part in helping Remploy increase the number of jobs it finds in mainstream employment for people with disabilities and health conditions.

Hull is one of the fastest growing cities in the UK and, with more than 14,000 people receiving incapacity benefit in the area, Remploy aims to have a significant impact on the number of disabled people finding employment.

At the launch, guests - which included employer representatives and disability advisors from local Jobcentre Plus offices - were given tours of the new branch and introduced to Remploy's employment specialists. The team will advise people on job options and training opportunities, as well as offering support to successful candidates and their employers.

Sue Riley, regional human resources manager from City Facilities said, "We have an extremely positive relationship with Remploy and have enjoyed many job successes since we first joined forces back in 2002. Key to our strong partnership is the fact that Remploy understands our specific needs as an employer and we are looking forward to working closely with Remploy's new branch in Hull."

Branch manager John McGrath comments, "There is huge potential to make a real difference in Hull. Remploy has created a high profile facility in this city, meaning people with disabilities and health conditions have access to a quality service aimed precisely at helping them."

Candidate services on offer at Remploy's Hull branch include employability skills and vocational training, assistance with job-searching, help with letter writing, completing application forms and arranging job tasters and interviews. Local employers benefit from faster access to a pool of motivated, job-ready candidates and expert help and advice on disability issues.

Since first opening its doors in June, the branch has worked closely with companies such as Asda, Kingston Communications and Hull City Council.
