Remploy & Grimsby Institute to support more disabled jobseekers

Grimsby InstitutePeople with learning disabilities in Grimsby are about to receive more help to get sustainable jobs, thanks to a new partnership between The Grimsby Institute of Further and Higher Education and Remploy, which supports people who experience complex barriers to employment.

Working with the Grimsby Institute, Remploy has just opened a new specialist recruitment services office above the Institute's 'Ideas Place' cafe on Freeman Street, which itself offers skills development for local disabled people.

The scheme is part of Project EMERALD (Ensuring More Employment Reaches Adults with Learning Difficulties) which is funded by regional development agency Yorkshire Forward and is being delivered by Remploy in partnership with other organisations. The aim of the scheme is to improve the employment prospects for people with learning disabilities across the county.

"We're enjoying great success with Project EMERALD across the water in Hull but for some time have been seeking a base here in Grimsby," said Remploy's regional director Tom Jackson. "With the Grimsby Institute's support we now have this facility, which will be a focus to help more people develop real employability skills."

Steve Parsons, Head of school, Preparation for Life and Work at Grimsby Institute endorses the partnership. "We're really pleased to be associated with Remploy and welcome them to the Ideas Place. This arrangement will help develop and strengthen links between our organisation and external agencies, and in addition provide a more cohesive resource for people with learning disabilities in Grimsby."

From its new base above the Ideas Place, Remploy will provide a range of specialist recruitment and development services for jobseekers who are keen to return to work or enter the labour market for the first time. These include basic employment skills and vocational training, assistance with job searching, help with completing applications forms and arranging job tasters and interviews.

Remploy's specialist employment services advisors in Grimsby can be contacted on 0300 456 8033.
