Last year, Remploy found 6,500 jobs in mainstream employment for people with a range of physical, sensory and mental disabilities - a 27 per cent increase on 2006. It plans to increase that figure to more than 20,000 each year by 2012.

Remploy operates a rapidly expanding network of town and city centre recruitment branches, which provide specialist recruitment and development services to jobseekers.

At the end of this year, Remploy will have opened more than 30 branches and plans to open around 45 by 2010.

The company partners with some of the country's biggest organisations to find jobs for disabled people, including BT, RBS, Royal Mail, the National Health Service, Marks & Spencer and ASDA.

Remploy operates a learning business, partnering with skills organisations and colleges to help disabled people to develop transferable skills before entering the job market.

The company has a vocational rehabilitation business that advises employers on retaining in work people who have developed a disability or health condition.

Remploy partners with a wide range of local and national organisations including specialist disability organisations, local service providers, government agencies and departments, City Partnerships and Local Authorities to develop and deliver effective integrated services for disabled people which address individual and local needs.

Remploy has implemented a modernisation programme which involved the closure of 29 factories allowing resources to be transferred from loss-making factories into finding many more jobs for disabled people in mainstream employment.

No disabled employee was made compulsorily redundant. At the closing factories 350 people took early retirement with a redundancy payment, 629 took voluntary redundancy and 214 transferred to another Remploy factory or have been redeployed within the organisation.

The remaining 259 employees who opted to stay on Remploy terms and conditions are being helped by Remploy's specialist staff to find a new job in mainstream employment.

Remploy remains the country's largest employer of disabled people with more than 3,000 employees at 54 locations around Britain

Remploy supplies chemical and biological protection suits to police and armed forces in the UK and abroad; it is the largest supplier of furniture to the education sector; operates an IT recycling business; and manufactures components for leading motor manufacturers.

Remploy is a Non-Departmental Public Body, funded by the Department for Work and Pensions. It will receive grant of £111m a year over the next five years.
